Even though the seagulls are capable of diving for their own fish, some of them seem to prefer to stalk pelicans, wait until they dive, and then try to steal their catch. A seagull will often relentlessly follow a pelican for half an hour or more, trying to steal its catch everytime the pelican dives. The pelicans have learned to keep their head underwater until the seagull gets tired of waiting and leaves. Then they lift their heads to swallow their catch.
